VSAI staff, artists and students have apparently never heard of the "lazy" days of summer - focusing instead on the "crazy" days! It's been a busier, more productive summer than ever in the VSAI studios and beyond. The Urban Artisans summer program has had 25 artists working with four teaching artists. You can view their work, along with the work of Community Class summer students, at the en ROUTE Gallery opening Friday, Aug. 3, from 6-9 p.m. All Urban Artisans are also invited to the VSAI cookout July 25!
Master Teaching Artist Linda Wisler reports that the Urban Artisans enjoyed amazing sales success at the summer Farmer's Markets and completed two commissioned works, as well. They made 65 centerpieces for the Indiana Department of Education Division of Exceptional Learners' August conference, where the centerpieces will be raffled off at the end of the day. They also have been commissioned to make 300 bowls for the Broad Ripple Village's September gallery tour. The bowls will have the Broad Ripple Village logo in them and the Urban Artisans symbol on the back.
In addition, Urban Artisans have worked with VSAI Teaching Artist Carrie Claycombe to create garden benches as part of VSAI's partnership with Homeward Bound, an organization that raises awareness and funding for people who are homeless. At the summer farmer's markets, people sought out Urban Artisans to ask about their work and programs, and sales were more than twice that of the previous year. Congratulations, Urban Artisans, for all your hard work!
